This tournament allows players to improve/obtain their international FIDE rating without taking a week off from studies/work. If there is a sufficiently large non-English entry with high enough grades then IM norms may be possible as several IM's normally enter. If you are from outside England and need a visa ask the Tournament Secretary for a letter to support your visa application.

To provide opportunities for international rating on the FIDE World Rating List the organisers reserve the right to transfer players between sections and amalgamate sections.
